A price nobody set went live

Last verified Nov 3
Exact text to search:
AI agent put wrong price on website, price on landing page nobody approved, waitlist page showed a price

1What happened

We built a waitlist page for a new offer. The owner had not set a price yet.

A research note from two weeks earlier guessed one, about $3,000, and marked it "waiting on the owner's yes". That guess was carried into the page copy, and on Nov 2 the page went live saying "Expected price: $3,000".

Our review passed the page, because nothing in it checked who set the number. The owner saw it and asked where it came from. The wrong price was live for 5 minutes before it came off.

2What we did

  1. Took the price section off the page. In its place: "We confirm the price before anyone pays."

  2. A rule is proposed: before any page with a price goes live, whoever built it links the owner's own message that set that price.

  3. No link, no price. The page says the price will be confirmed instead.

3How we checked

We read the live page after the fix. The price was gone and the confirm line was there. The page came down 7 minutes later, when the offer moved.

4Try it

AI agents fill gaps with the best guess they can find, and a research estimate reads just like a decision. A review that checks wording won't catch it. Ask one question of every price, date or promise on a page: where are the owner's words that set it?
